Here you see a sample layout of a site I am currently working on. This is the first run. I put something together and uploaded it to a space on my site. The client will be able to see it live, but it's not anywhere someone would find it without the direct link.
Of course you are seeing different wording than the client got with their sample; however, there's wording the client can get a visual with and I always tell you that it's raw (or VERY raw!) but you can see where I'm headed and let me know if you like some of it, all of it or none of it. Then we go back to the drawing board!
I sent the client the link to see the raw sample. At this point they will approve or disapprove the layout overall. If they are pleased with it, then we get the content incorporated. After the home page is set up, then we begin building the other pages of the site.
Consistency is key. You want your whole site to go along one theme. You don't want each page (or several pages) to be different in colors and style. Your header, navigational menu, colors, etc. should remain. The look of the layout can change, obviously you may need 3 rows and 2 columns on one page, but only one area in another page, such as the contact page. Therefore, I get your home page set up exactly like you want it, then we use that to build the other pages or your website.
God is my guide and inspiration. Sometimes as I'm talking to a potential client I'll get a picture in my head and start with that. Other times I start out with something but end up with a layout, style and colors that are far removed from my original vision. It all comes together beautifully in the end, no matter how it starts! It's so fun!
I do not use templates. I start from scratch on each website, hand coding every line, creating every photo, meshing together all colors and textures. To me, if i used a template and just threw your information in it, that's cheating the client. Each of us are unique; therefore, your site should be unique as well! You should get your money's worth, not pay someone to pull up a template they used for the last 11 clients, switch out information and throw it up.
